How To Relieve Bed/Pressure Sores Naturally With Essential Oils

Pressure ulcers are sores caused by immobility and prolonged crushing of the skin on a hard surface, thus mainly affecting the elderly, bedridden or in a wheelchair, especially if they have lost their natural mobility (coma, paralysis) or if they suffer from health concerns.

What are Bed sores/Pressure sores?

During prolonged immobility, the skin layers are under pressure between the bed or the chair and the bones, hence the formation of bedsores at the support points: lower back, buttocks, heels, but also sometimes the elbows, the shoulder blades or the top of the skull. This pressure crushes the blood vessels in-depth and the blood no longer irrigates the tissues which will very quickly lack oxygen. When it extends, the tissues die and become necrotic.

In practice, two hours are sufficient for the formation of pressure sores, but these begin in a silent way: they first develop in-depth at the level of the muscles and then reach the different layers of the skin. We first observe a red and painful area. If it is prolonged, the skin becomes necrotic, becomes black, cardboard, insensitive to touch. The skin then becomes hollow and the muscle and bone damages are significant. If bed rest persists, bedsore does not heal spontaneously; on the contrary, it can spread and, above all, become infected.

How to relieve bed sores/pressure sores and facilitate healing through essential oils

The first thing to do is to avoid the appearance of bedsores: frequent change of position, massaging the parts in contact with the surfaces, good hydration, and nutritional contribution ...

If the bedsores are already present, they do not heal spontaneously because they are no longer irrigated. Synergies based on essential oils for healing ( Lavender ), microcirculatory ( Cistus ), and skin antiseptic ( Bay Leaf ) will be used to accelerate the healing of pressure sores.
