How are stretch marks formed?

Stretch marks, appear in the form of parallel and irregular streaks on the skin , more or less long, a few millimeters in width, resembling small "stripes". At first red-purple and inflammatory in appearance, they gradually take on a pearly color a little lighter than the skin. They appear on the areas of the body likely to stretch ( belly, breasts, thighs, buttocks, hips, upper arms ... ) when the skin is subjected to a significant and rapid stretching. The elastic fibers of the dermis then break and the skin "cracks".

This is what can happen especially during pregnancy, or even during adolescence. Stretch marks can also appear in the event of rapid weight gain, or in the context of certain sports with the rapid increase in muscle mass (bodybuilding, etc.).

In addition, a high cortisol level in the body promotes the appearance of stretch marks because it decreases the production of collagen which ensures the maintenance of the elasticity of the skin. Thus, top athletes or people taking corticosteroid drugs may be particularly prone to stretch marks. The appearance of stretch marks outside periods of pregnancy, puberty, or rapid weight change should lead to consulting a doctor, as it can be a sign of a pathology called Cushing's syndrome.

Apart from these particular cases, stretch marks are a common and inconsequential condition, apart from their appearance often considered unsightly.

How to avoid stretch marks?

As it is difficult to get rid of stretch marks, it is better to prevent their occurrence, especially during pregnancy, pregnant women being particularly prone to it.

To avoid the appearance of stretch marks during pregnancy, apply daily on the areas that are likely to relax (stomach, breasts, hips, buttocks) nutritious and softening vegetable oils, such as vegetable oils from Wheatgerm, Rosehip, Macadamia, Evening Primrose Sweet Almond, or  Vegetable Shea Butter … Applied in gentle massages, these treatments will help maintain the elasticity of the skin while preserving its good hydration.

Essential oils are not suitable during pregnancy but can be used after, at the end of the breastfeeding period, to firm up distended skin and help regenerate tissues if stretch marks have appeared.

How to remove stretch marks?

If it is not possible to completely remove stretch marks, which indicate a deep tear in the dermis, regular care can reduce these unsightly streaks and improve their appearance

Regenerating powerful, Rosehip vegetable oil is the champion to improve the condition of marked skin and scars, it is essential to treat recent or old stretch marks. It is used in massages, ideally combined with restorative, astringent, and firming essential oils to reduce all types of stretch marks (after pregnancy, wait until the end of breastfeeding to add essential oils to your anti-stretch mark oil. ). Anti-inflammatory essential oils, like Helichrysum and Lavender, will improve the appearance of red stretch marks at the inflammatory stage. To promote the repair of deep tissue essential oils with healing properties, like those of Cistus, Helichrysum, Rosemary, Lavender, or Frankincense will do wonders. Finally, to tone the skin and improve its firmness, we will supplement with toning and astringent essential oils, which tighten the tissues, such as those of Geranium, Cistus, Myrtle, Cajeput ...
